Being together since age 19 and walking through the stages of young adulthood has been a special way to grow in love. Within the last several years marriage was not a matter of if, only when.

We made a last-minute decision to get engaged at Christmas time last year. Wanting to make it a memorable experience, we reached out to our community to see if anyone could photograph our proposal.

We were put in touch with Erik Bahle, a skilled Northern Michigan photographer who blessed us with his time and artfully photographed us as we relived some of our favorite early moments together. We hope you enjoy these photos as we enjoyed recounting the memories...

In August of 2013, Hannah sat behind Brew, smoking a cigarette. Miley rode up on her motorcycle, and Hannah said, “Nice bike!” “Thanks! You ever been on one?” Miley asked. Hannah hadn’t. “You want to?” Miley said. “I left my cigarettes at home and I live right around the corner. We can come right back.” Normally skeptical of strangers, Hannah agreed quickly, a bit of foreshadowing of the connection they would soon discover.

A short bike ride, a couple mochas, and a few hours later, Brew closed for the evening, so Miley and Hannah walked to The State Theater for a midnight showing of "The Never-Ending Story". Hannah’s sister Grace was with them, which makes for a fun memory!

Miley and Hannah stand in the place they exchanged numbers 11 years prior. Brew became their favorite hang-out spot, where Hannah and Miley got to know each over the days, months, and years. Never imagining The City Opera House next door would one day be where they have their wedding reception!
